What will I learn?

During this course, participants interested in ceramic creation will be introduced to pottery hand-building techniques and throwing on the wheel.

The course will include lead projects and free projects as well as some history of ceramic techniques used.

Each of the lead projects will explore a specific building technique such as pinching, coiling, slab building and throwing and a unique decorative method including slip work, Sgraffito, Mishima, impressing and stamping, oxides, paper resist and more.

The theoretical part will include a brief history of pottery and more specifically of techniques used during the course and explanation of ceramic terminology.

Tips

The world of ceramics is magical and mesmerizing. Clay and glazes are living materials coming from the earth and combining with each other in mysterious ways. It is alchemy. Like every craft it takes time. Keep your mind opened to experimentation, be patient and loving with the clay and ceramic will give you much more than you asked for 🙂
